|The FISHERS 50th Anniversary|
50 Years of God’s Blessings
I have been worshipping at The ‘Fisherman of Christ’ Fellowship (FCF) since 1977 and the Fishers magazine was an integral part of FCF from the first day I stepped into the church until now. The editorial team has undergone several changes and yet its objective remains unchanged: to present the Gospel and promote Christian spiritual growth. None of those involved in the production of Fishers are professional writers, editors or illustrators and sustaining production for 50 years is a wonderful testimony of the Lord's provision and guidance. There were also times in the past when finances in the church were tight and we wondered if we could pay the printers. Yet, we can testify that God provided faithfully and enabled the ministry of the Fishers to continue all these years.
When I was growing up in the church, I enjoyed reading testimonies of other Christians in Fishers because it was an encouragement to see how God worked in their lives and answered prayers. The focus of the testimonies was never about the faith of the individual Christian but on a faithful God who never leaves nor forsakes His people. That is how all Christian testimony should be: giving God the glory. Some articles dealt with ethical and moral issues and it was a great help to be instructed about abiding by Scriptural principles when making decisions.
Many Christians assume that the Gospel messages are only relevant to non-Christians and they may skip articles labelled as "Gospel" and only read the articles about Christian living and Christian testimonies. They could not be more wrong because every Christian needs to be constantly and repeatedly exposed to the Gospel and be reminded of the love of God for undeserving sinners. We should never tire of reading about God's plans to save those who were enemies of God because we are not saved by good works but the grace of God through faith in Jesus Christ. A clear understanding of the Gospel would keep us walking by faith and not by sight amid trials and temptations.
For the past 15 years, I have placed copies of the Fishers magazine at my place of work and have lost count of the number of times I have had to replenish the magazine because they were taken away so quickly. Many are surprised when I encourage them to take the magazine with them and pass it on to others when they have finished reading. Over the years, some have begun subscribing directly to the magazine for themselves as well as for their friends. Others prefer to pick up a copy when they come to see me. The greatest surprise is when they find that we do not charge for the magazine or postage. We are not a wealthy church but our God has provided for the publication of this magazine in the past 50 years and we continue to look to Him for provision. Our duty as a church is to faithfully proclaim the whole, undiluted Gospel, knowing that some may be hearing the Gospel for the first time and others have been confused by a false Gospel. Even if one soul was saved through the Gospel messages and other Christians encouraged by the articles to live by faith, all the efforts that have gone into the production has reaped its fruits and God is glorified.
