A Line From Us

The Bible reveals a wonderful truth: God is sovereign, and He exercises His sovereignty in absolutely everything. Whether in ways marvellous or mundane, whether in circumstances delightful or distressing, we would do well to consciously remind ourselves of God’s providential hand in all things. That will save us from pride in good times, and from dejection in difficult times. Seeing God’s Hand at Every Turn brings out some key tenets of God’s Providence as can be learned from the Book of Esther.

For those who trust in Jesus as their Lord and Saviour, His providential care is mediated to us in His shepherding of His flock. I am the Good Shepherd spells out in glorious detail how the Chief Shepherd protects and provides for His sheep. In this issue of Fishers, we have two personal testimonies of how the Good Shepherd has gone in search of lost sheep and brought them into His fold. The Joy of Knowing Christ is by a Filipino lady, while A New Life in Christ is by a Singaporean gentleman. These are two heartwarming stories.

How is one saved from one’s sins? The Apostle Paul tells us, “For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not come to know God, God was well-pleased through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe” (1 Cor 1:21). The salvation of souls comes through the proclamation of the Gospel. Dying Once or Twice? presents that Gospel truth, while Authentic Relationships in Evangelism highlights some important elements in witnessing, especially in a cross-cultural context.

Once sinners are saved, they should, without delay, come into the community of the redeemed to worship God, witness to others, and do the works of ministry. How can we identify a sound local church, so that we may become an active member of one as Christ intended? Marks of a Healthy Church answers that question.
