A Line From Us

The Christian life is radically different from how the world lives. The follower of Jesus is fundamentally different, not just from the world, but also from what he was like before coming to know Christ. As the Apostle Paul puts it, “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come” (2 Cor 5:17). This issue of Fishers celebrates this newness of life, expressed in many different ways.

The theme article, To Be More Like Jesus – Walk in the Spirit explains how the Spirit of God indwells the believer, directing his life, enacting change, and bearing the multi-faceted fruit of the Spirit (Gal 5:22-23). The Christian takes a different view of life himself, making wise plans to glorify God, yet submitting his plans to the sovereign God to do as He wishes. In other words, he learns to hold that delicate balance between Strategic Planning versus Sovereign Providence. He also learns to live out the difference between a Christian man and a Christian woman, according to the God-ordained roles for men and women. The Glory of God in the Genesis of Gender delineates the Biblical principles undergirding male leadership and female submission.

Drilling down to specifics, Do Not Speak Evil of One Another deals with a very common sin in local churches – gossip and slander. James warns us that “the tongue is a fire, the very world of iniquity” – indeed, no one can tame the tongue, except that the Spirit of God indwells him, and transforms him by the renewing of his mind (Rom 12:2).

Two Rich Men, Two Destinies explains God’s Gospel of salvation, how one may have one’s sins forgiven and receive newness of life. The Wonders of Saving Faith explains what happens when one hears the Gospel and obeys God in His commands therein. Read this. Share it with your friends. Pass it along to others. Order more copies.
