A Line From Us

Frequent readers of the Fishers might have noticed a new and distinct look in the graphics and layout of the magazine in the last few issues. This is because we have a new husband and wife team, Adam and Jeslyn, as artists. Our long standing artist, Keng Chiew, who was also the Art Editor, had left the ministry more than a year ago to serve the Lord in another capacity abroad. By the time this issue is printed, our new art team will also be abroad, but they are still continuing to serve the Lord through the wonders of information technology, namely the Internet!

The Fishers is indeed grateful to all our artists, past and present, for their work and faithfulness. Sometimes it is easy to take their work, largely done unsung, for granted, but nothing that we do for the Lord escapes His attention. He knows in terms of eternal significance which are wood, hay or straw, and which are gold, silver and precious stones.

I was reminded of the act of Mary when she broke the expensive alabaster (a fine calcite, like marble) perfume jar and poured its even more costly, rare and exotic contents of spikenard, imported from India, worth more than three hundred denarii, or a year's salary of the ordinary workman or soldier, on the Lord's head at Simon the leper's home. Knowing and accepting the fact that He was to die on the Cross, she gave Him the most expensive item she owned. That single gift was simply given out of sheer love and worship of the Lord.

This act was so extraordinary and extravagant that the Lord declared, "Assuredly, I say to you, wherever this gospel is preached in the whole world, what this woman has done will also be told as a memorial to her." (Mt 26:13 NKJV) What alabaster jar of spikenard will we give just to worship the Lord, for no other reason?
